There's a question we get asked often.
"Why Moissanite?"
And honestly, the more we share the answer, the more we love it ourselves.
A Discovery That Started in a Meteor Crater
In 1893, a French scientist named Henri Moissan was examining the site of a meteor crater in Arizona when he found something unusual — tiny, sparkling crystals embedded in the rock.
He thought they were diamonds.
They weren't.
What he had actually discovered was an entirely new mineral — silicon carbide — later named Moissanite in his honour. A gemstone so rare in nature that it had travelled here from space.
We find that quietly extraordinary. And it's part of why we fell in love with this stone.
More Brilliant Than a Diamond — and That's Not Marketing
We know that sounds like a bold claim, so let's be straightforward about it.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond. In plain terms, it bends and reflects light more intensely — producing deeper sparkle and those gorgeous colourful flashes (called fire) that make a piece truly come alive.
When we were designing the first Veesaraa collection, we kept holding Moissanite pieces up to the light in the studio. Every single time, someone in the room would say, "Wait — that's not a diamond?"
That reaction told us everything.
Built for Real Life, Not Just Special Occasions
One thing we felt strongly about when building Veesaraa: luxury shouldn't sit in a box waiting for the right moment.
Moissanite scores 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale — meaning it's one of the toughest gemstones you can wear. Resistant to scratches, resilient through daily life, and just as stunning after years of wear as it was on day one.
We designed our pieces to go everywhere with you. The Tuesday morning meeting. The Sunday brunch. The wedding you've been looking forward to for months. The quiet evening you just want to feel good in what you're wearing.
Your jewellery should keep up with your life. Ours does.
Rarer Than Diamonds — and That Surprises Almost Everyone
Here's something most people don't know: natural Moissanite is actually rarer than diamond.
Gem-quality Moissanite is so scarce in nature that virtually every piece used in jewellery today is created in advanced laboratories — allowing for the consistency, ethical sourcing, and quality control that fine jewellery deserves.
We think that's the responsible way to do this. And it means every stone in a Veesaraa piece has been chosen with intention, not just availability.
A Stone That's Also Part of the Future
Here's the part that genuinely fascinates us.
Silicon carbide — the very material that makes Moissanite — is also used in electric vehicles, aerospace systems, and next-generation electronics. The same gemstone connected to a meteor crater in 1893 is helping power some of the most advanced technology being built today.
For us, that means something.
Veesaraa was built for women who hold onto what's timeless while moving confidently into what's next. Moissanite feels like it was made for exactly that kind of woman.
So — Why Did We Choose Moissanite?
When we were figuring out what Veesaraa should be, we kept coming back to one question: what does luxury actually mean today?
Not luxury as a price point. Not luxury as a status symbol. But luxury as something that feels genuinely good — beautiful, considered, durable, and worth every rupee.
Moissanite gave us all of that.
Extraordinary brilliance. Everyday wearability. An origin story unlike anything else in fine jewellery. And a stone we feel proud to put our name on.
More Than a Gemstone. Part of Your Story.
Jewellery has always been about the moments attached to it.
The necklace you wore the day you got the job. The bracelet that reminds you of your mother. The ring that just became part of how people see you.
When you wear Veesaraa, you're not just wearing something beautiful. You're wearing something that started in the stars and was made to travel alongside the most brilliant version of you.
That feels right to us. We hope it does to you too.
